Directions
Marble Cake
10 Steps
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 180°C.
Step 2
Beat the butter with the sugar in a medium-sized bowl with a hand mixer or in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment.
Step 3
Using another medium bowl, sift flour, baking powder and salt together.
Step 4
In thirds, gradually add the flour to the beaten butter and sugar, mixing thoroughly in between until all of the flour is incorporated.
Step 5
Add eggs and vanilla and mix well until the mixture is smooth.
Step 6
Mix cocoa with hot water. Divide the batter between two bowls and put the cocoa mixture into 1 bowl, mix well.
Step 7
Pour regular batter first and then cocoa-laced batter between 2 moulds (23cm x 7cm x 6cm). If you want to make the marble pattern more prominent, you can alternate 1 tablespoon of regular batter, 1 tablespoon of cocoa batter and use a toothpick to swirl together.
Step 8
Cover the cake with foil to help prevent the cake from cracking and bake in oven for 30 minutes.
Step 9
While the cake is cooking make the ganache. Heat the dark chocolate with whipping cream until the mixture is melted and smooth.
Step 10
After taking the cake out of the oven, let the cake cool down before you pour the ganache on it and let it sit for another 10 minutes before serving.
