A group of talented POC-led food businesses in the GTA are coming together to create your dream set of sweets -- for two days only.
In this limited edition bundle of pastries, find Tito Parley's sea salt yema and ube latte silvanas, Adobar's 22-layer chocolate cake, Kwento's coco-pina tartlet and Soft Dough Co.'s madeleines in the flavours of coconut, cinnamon sugar, almond-topped vanilla and candied ginger.
Led by Soft Dough Co. baker and owner Alice, each business is putting forward the desserts they've perfected and are most known for, to showcase all of their talents in one heavenly bundle.
Alice launched her home business last summer, noting that baking has always been a creative outlet for her, inspired by her family. "In my family (as with many Asian families), food is where we come together. As a kid, I would get home from school to my mom's freshly baked HK egg tarts, pineapple buns, you name it!"
Running a small business isn't easy, but Alice says that "It's a privilege now to have a community of customers and fellow small business owners support and cheer on this bakery. 'Good food, good mood' is our motto because there's so much joy around sharing and eating desserts."
Alice discusses how as an online business, a big challenge is not being able to meet her customers, "I'm lucky to have an engaged community on social media, but nothing replaces that in-person connection. I'm on the search for pop-ups and markets to attend as the weather gets warmer."
Alice's goals for collaborating with other small businesses to further build their online communities and widen the discovery of local brands to more people online, brought this dream team together to create the Dream Set.
Soft Dough Co. creates classic desserts with a twist. Bestselling items on the menu include madeleines that rotate in flavours, burnt basque cheesecake and seasonal baked goods. You can expect more pastries and even savoury items to join the menu soon.
Tito Parley's creates classic Filipino desserts like creamy sans rival cakes and silvanas, but with a twist. These treats have flavours inspired by Parley's childhood, travels and favourite local spots. Find their delicious sea salt yema and ube latte silvanas on the menu for the Dream Set.
Adobar is a home business specializing in modern Filipino food. They aim to elevate some of their favourite childhood foods through their secret recipes, including one extremely popular treat. You may have heard of Adobar, for their decadent 22 layer tsoko (chocolate) mousse cake and that's exactly what they're bringing to the table for this collaboration.
KWENTO is a small baking business that was created as an ode to the founder Shannon Nocos' experience living and studying in the Philippines. She aims to share the diversity in Filipino food and dessert through focusing on Filipino-inspired pastries. KWENTO is most known for their tarts and eclectic approach to cakes. Expect a new creation of a tropical coco-pina tartlet in the Dream Set.
