Edo Japan has opened its 200th location in the neighbourhood of Yonge Street and College. As it celebrates a milestone 45 years in business in 2024, the Canadian brand remains committed to serving the freshest and highest-quality foods across the country.

Named for “Edo,” the ancient name for Tokyo, Edo Japan was founded in 1979 by Japanese Buddhist minister Reverend Susumu Ikuta as a way to share traditional Teppan-style meals with a North American audience. From its first location, the brand has grown into a cross-country fan-favourite that now includes 11 locations in the GTA.

Beckoned by the aroma of sizzling meat and garlic-laced, sweet and rich teriyaki sauce, more than 11 million diners visit Edo Japan each year. Beyond the company’s traditional best-sellers like Teriyaki Chicken and Sukiyaki Beef, the diverse menu now features handmade sushi, loaded chop chop bowls, ramen, and a number of sweet and refreshing flavours of bubble tea.

The menu reflects Japan’s rich culinary history with a modern twist, including tasty beef and pork gyoza, light and crunchy tempura shrimp and golden spring rolls. As for that habit-forming Teriyaki sauce? It’s now available to purchase at all locations as well as online, meaning you can add its signature flavour to any home-cooked meal.

With plenty of options available to customize orders, Edo Japan puts diners in the driver’s seat. Every rice bowl can be made with white, brown or cauliflower rice, plus additional protein or vegetables. Noodle bowls can be made with no sauce, with hot chilli sauce, extra protein and(for days when a single portion won’t do) Sumo Sized.

Craving the ultimate choose-your-own adventure? Bento boxes — like the Hawaiian Chicken Bento, Sizzling Shrimp Bento and more — allow customers to select their sides from a lengthy list that includes various types of sushi, tempura and spring rolls.

At each of Edo Japan’s 200 locations, the brand continues to meet the needs of diners with fast and fresh, quality meals. From its first restaurant to its latest, you’ll find a friendly team doling out plate after plate of hearty and delicious handcrafted fare. Edo Japan’s 200th location is located at 452 Yonge Street, at the bustling intersection of Yonge and College.
