Anthony Lamacchia and Simone Iannarella, the owners and restauranteurs behind the Italian restaurant Porcello Cantina in Woodbridge, have created a sister company called Lasagna Depot, a homestyle lasagna delivery business that drops off fresh pasta right at your doorstep.
In February, Porcello Cantina sold a large order of lasagnas on Family Day, leading to Iannarella––the sous chef at Porcello Cantina––to come up with a great idea to scale their lasagna production and sales. After speaking with Lamacchia, the owner of Porcello Cantina, they both felt it would be a great idea to share their passion for lasagna with the rest of the city.
Lasagna Depot features 11 specialty versions of the beloved pasta dish. Some of their popular lasagnas include the Nutella, Carbonara and Tartufo. The Tartufo lasagna is made with black truffle imported straight from Italy, sautéed mushrooms (champignon, oyster, enoki, shiitake) in Prosecco, mozzarella, pecorino and parsley.
Apart from classic lasagna recipes, they also offer what they call "lasagna bites", which are similar to Italian arancini, and are made of smaller lasagna pieces breaded and deep fried full of Bolognese sauce, mozzarella and fresh basil.
"We look at it like how people bring Timbits to a party, a beach or picnic... you can instead show up to a party with lasagna bites instead," says Lamacchia.
Their most unusual flavours has to be their Nutella lasagna, which Lamacchia explains, is like "a hot layered birthday cake that's full of Nutella."
Lasagna Depot delivers fresh lasagna ready to cook. You can also keep it in the fridge for up to 48 hours or freeze the lasagna for up to two months. They even pair the lasagna with Macario Retro Drinks, soft drinks made in Italy, to give you the full experience of dining like an Italian.
"We want to move with the times," says Lamacchia. "We are two young guys that have a passion for what we do, we want to make people happy, through their palates, their noses, get them to understand the different flavours we play around with. [We] want to make it in this crazy world."
Delivery is available across the GTA. Orders placed by Saturday will be delivered the following Wednesday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
If you opt for the pickup option, your lasagna will be ready for pickup inside Porcello Cantina at 125 Hawkview Boulevard in Woodbridge between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. on both Thursday and Friday.
