My Snacc Time, a new East Asian snack subscription box, is bringing unique Asian snacks to Toronto.
Founded by Quincy Cheung and Garbo Kwan, the duo felt that due to the pandemic preventing people from travelling, they wanted to share East Asian culture with Toronto. Each box comes with 8-12 different snacks that represent a different country each month. This means snacks will vary every month, so you'll always get to experience something new every time.
Each Snacc Time box will include a 'snack map' showing snackers which countries they will be exploring that month. One feature Cheung and Kwan are currently working on for the future is to digitize this experience with augmented and virtual reality for a more well-rounded experience. They are hoping to implement a QR code that people can scan, bringing them to some sort of interactive user experience that will showcase some information of a country.
Each month so far, they group countries by proximity––for the month of May they are focusing on Korea, Japan and Taiwan. Kwan and Cheung pick the snacks based off of how unique they are. Salted roasted seaweed, for example, is a popular option, but instead they decided to include a unique Korean BBQ flavoured seaweed in this month’s box. They emphasized their goal is to share their passion and love of snacks with the world in an accessible and simple way.
Kwan has a passion for travelling and taking picturesque food photos. Her hope for Snacc Time is not only to share her passion of new unique snacks with the world, but to also bring back nostalgic memories for first generation Asian Canadians of snacks they would have eaten as a kid.
She also emphasized there are many people who can’t travel due to medical conditions, and the Snacc Time box provides a way to bring people closer to these offshore foods.
Just like Kwan, Cheung has always shared a love for Asian snacks. He shared he would always go to his local supermarket searching for new treats every week. This passion turned into launching Snacc Time by sharing his discoveries with everyone around the world.
