You can get now get your hands on 'ramen pudding' in Toronto

You might have seen videos circulating on social media of a new dessert trend that replicates a bowl of ramen, but turns it into a delicious sweet pudding. After going viral in Taiwan, a hand-crafted dessert spot in Toronto has caught on, and is now making their own ramen pudding that looks exactly like the real thing.

Cheuk Wa Yip, founder of Kurimi, was always inspired by the desserts being made in Asia, specifically in Taiwan. He noticed that ramen pudding became so popular where it originated, that if you wanted to place an order to receive ingredients to create your own, the wait time would be over two months, even if ordering from China or Japan.

"We were thinking, what if we can develop our own recipe, and bring this dessert to Toronto where there is already such a big scene for ramen," says Yip.

The goal was to create a recipe that would keep the pudding firm enough, but melt in your mouth when taking a bite. After a month of playing around with different techniques and ingredients, they finally got to a place where they could hand-made thick ramen-style noodles, that are actually made of pudding.

Currently, they are offering two signature flavours which compliment the typical "richness" found in most ramen soup broths. The first is Creme Brûlée, which has a milky, brown-sugary taste, and is mixed with a lighter yellow layer of pudding on the base, to recreate the look of a classic bowl of Zubu ramen.

Their second (and newest flavour) is Mango, which brings forward a new look, as well as a cacophony of delicious flavours when mixed with the caramel topping––meant to look like soy sauce––and the stylish candied mini eggs on top.

So grab some chopsticks and give your taste buds a pleasant surprise when you slurp down your first bowl of Kurimi ramen pudding, now available for pick-up.
