Yelp Toronto is hosting a Global Goodies event series this Spring, showcasing the variety of cultural foods from around the world that can be found throughout Toronto’s vibrant restaurant scene. The events are all free, with the first ones kicking off March 16 and the last event wrapping up on April 30. Events range from giveaways to deals to cooking classes, featuring everything from African curry to Filipino donuts.
The Global Goodies event series comprises a total of seven unique events: A croffles tasting at Little Pebbles in Kensington market, offered from March 16 to 24, an Indian Twist at the new SpiceBros location in Etobicoke from the March 24 to 30––where patrons can get a custom Bro Bowl and mango lassi––as well as a virtual Kuku Paka African Curry Night with a virtual cooking class on April 6, with guest-list members receiving a complimentary meal kit for the class available for pickup the week prior.
The class is run by the Abibiman project, a non-profit organization that celebrates and educates food from across Africa. The Abibiman project donates all their profits to the Afri-Can Food Basket, a Toronto-based charity.
There’s also a Gelato Gathering at Nani’s Gelato in Mississauga on March 31, the opportunity for a free Magic box cake at MyPandanCake on Gerrard East from April 4 to 10, six free lokmas with strawberries, white and milk chocolate from Lokmas Pastry in Scarborough from April 18 to 24, and four free Filipino-inspired donuts from FK Dulce Bakery in North York.
Guests interested in attending are required to RSVP each of the events individually. You’ll need a Yelp account with your name and a photo for most of the events. However, two of these events, Croffles at Little Pebbles cafe and An Indian Twist at SpiceBros, are only open to those with Yelp Elite memberships. Yelp Elites are higher rated Yelp accounts that need approval based on a history of quality reviewing and community engagement.
