A new Southeast Asian eatery that offers authentic dishes in the form of rice bowls has come to Midtown Toronto.
Yaksha was inspired by Toronto's multicultural landscape. The Southeast Asian spot is a fusion between the rapid and reliable nature of a takeout service, combined with the same quality and authenticity that can be found at your favourite Asian restaurant. This unique environment was created by selecting various Southeast Asian dishes, breaking down the recipes, and modifying them into rice bowl creations.
Customers have the option of selecting their own base, toppings and sauces, or they may choose from any of the signature bowls. Each pre-assembled bowl encompasses the essence of a different Southeast Asian city.
Their best-sellers include the signature Malay Satay Bowl and the Red Curry Rice bowl. They also offer Thai iced tea, which is a popular Southeast Asian drink.
Yaksha is already collaborating with another small business as well––the intricate stamp featured on their takeout bags was created by Kid Icarus, a locally made goods and custom screen-printing shop in Kensington Market.
Until the end of the month, Yaksha is offering a grand opening promotion of 10 per cent off on all rice bowls.
"We would like to spread what we do here and invite or encourage customers to place an order and try our food out," says Thanawat Khamchum, the operations manager at Yaksha.
Yaksha is located at 2109 1/2 Yonge Street and is open from 12 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and is available for takeout, or delivery through Uber Eats and DoorDash. The restaurant will also be featured on SkipTheDishes and Ritual in the near future.
