Workin' Moms star claims to have found the best sushi in Toronto

"Best sushi I've had in Toronto. Can't believe it took a pandemic to find you," beckons Catherine Reitman, creator, executive producer, star and writer of CBC's acclaimed original series, Workin' Moms.

The Canadian-American actress is referring to Cho San Sushi, a sushi pop-up born out of the pandemic that delivers omakase-style sushi bentos right to your doorstep.

Cho San Sushi is helmed by chef and sushi master Li Qiang Zhang who previously worked at one of Markham's most high-end sushi restaurants, Zen Japanese Restaurant, before moving onto private catering in people's homes.

The menu features an Omakase and Chirashi Don Box, served in elegant bamboo bento boxes. The Omakase Box features the chef's daily selection and is filled with nigiri like o-toro, ebi, salmon, yellowtail, uni and sea bream, tamago and one hand roll. The Chirashi Don Box, an artful presentation of sashimi dotted with uni and salmon roe on top of sushi rice, is one of the best ways to enjoy takeout sushi. There is also a wide selection of à la carte sushi to choose from and large customizable platters available to order.

The uni flown in straight from Hokkaido is also not to be missed, as Cho San is touted as having some of the freshest uni one can get their hands on. Prices vary but boxes roughly start at $100 and sushi ranges from $8-$32 for two pieces.

Since launching Cho San, the pop-up has received nothing but glowing reviews, as many adamantly claim it to be the highest quality sushi available in the city and boast the omakase boxes as the best takeout meal they've enjoyed in quarantine to date.

One die-hard fan happens to be actress Catherine Reitman of CBC's hit success show, Workin' Moms. Filmed in Toronto, the series showcases the Canadian city as the backdrop for the chaotic, humorous and relatable lives of working mothers just trying to juggle it all. The show has gained international attention by landing a contract with Netflix and has just premiered its fifth season last night, February 16, following several sightings of the cast filming throughout the city these past months.
