You don’t have to spend a lot to drink good wine, especially not this Thursday at the Splash Dance hosted by Grape Crush Wine Bar.
The colourful Dundas West bar and bottle shop was founded at the start of the pandemic by Soso Food Club, a Chinese-inspired restaurant that closed its doors due to COVID lockdowns. They kept their takeout window open, however, and started selling a variety of natural wines that had been exclusive to restaurants like themselves.
After gaining a sizeable following, Grape Crush grew into its own concept and is now a permanent bottle shop and wine bar where Soso used to be.
Their motto, “Interesting and exceptional wines should be within reach to anyone, at any budget”—is an especially welcome concept in this expensive city, whether or not you call yourself a grape connoisseur.
At this Thursday’s “Splash Dance,” Grape Crush is inviting wine lovers and dabblers to experience their staff picks of the month. For just $24, every ticket comes with your choice of five “splashes” (1 oz.) from any of the three tasting bars that’ll be set up inside, and already includes a 20% gratuity.
“It’s going to be a casual wine tasting experience with approachable prices in a fun social setting,” says Maddie Barr, Shop Manager of Grape Crush. “Come taste some of our bottle shop favourites for the month and chat up our shop experts about what they’re loving right now.”
Co-hosted by Nicholas Pearce Wines, the wine-and-snacks soirée promises to be the perfect way to “wine down” on a Thursday evening.
In addition to the five “splashes” included with each ticket, guests will be able to take home bottles of their evening’s favourites, plus Grape Crush's amazing house wines, vermouth selections, bar rail drinks, beers, ciders, and snacks.
Put on your Thursday best and head over to the Grape Crush Splash Dance this Thursday, August 18 at 1166 Dundas St W. The tasting will go from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., and tickets are available now on their website for $24 plus tax (select “Pickup Instore” at checkout). The team has also announced they'll be leaving their Dundas West spot by the end of the month, so for the next two weeks, they'll be offering 10% off their entire shop, both in-store online with the promo code "CRUSH10".
