Vesuvio officially closes doors after weekend of long lines

After 63 years in business, Vesuvio Pizzeria has officially closed their doors. The family-run establishment cooked their last service April 19 and were met with an overwhelming amount of support and love from the community.

Following the restaurant's announcement late last week that they would be officially closing, people quickly raced to get their last meal from the beloved Toronto institution. So much so, the restaurant transitioned to in-person, pickup-only, as an influx of delivery orders swamped the staff. In order to follow physical distancing protocols, the street was barricaded off with pylons so patrons had adequate room to lineup.

Members of the community mourn the loss of an integral part of the Junction neighbourhood.

A testament to just how much Vesuvio will be missed, a 4 block lineup for the pizzeria is depicted in the video above.

An eager customer in line told a CTV News reporter that he travelled all the way from Muskoka just to eat Vesuvio's one last time. The man proudly stated that he had first tried Vesuvio's back in 1963.

It was quite a bid farewell to Toronto's original pizza joint. Vesuvio's will be deeply missed.
