Upscale Italian spot opens in Midtown

Toronto's newest spot for upscale European food, with a focus on Italian fare and an impressive selection of wines, is now open at Church and Wellesley.

Many Torontonians in this area may be familiar with the restaurant's location at 5 St. Joseph, the former home of neighbourhood favourite The Wickson Social. The closing of this popular midtown bar was sad news, but luckily, it is now being replaced by a beautiful spot perfect for a date night or a sophisticated weeknight dinner. Due to the current stage of the pandemic, Salvo was unfortunately forced to open up with takeout and delivery food only. However, they are still bringing their delicious Italian-style dinners to homes across the city.

The menu is full of elevated vegetables, rich pastas and a few seafood dishes, prepared in typical Italian style with plenty of fresh herbs, creamy sauces and of course, cheese. Small plates include baked eggplant with Parmigianino, char-grilled broccolini with house ricotta, crispy calamari with lemon-chili aioli and a preserved Albacore tuna salad. For main courses, Salvo offers classic margherita and pepperoni pizzas plus a daily special and pasta dishes like house-made gnocchi with butternut cream sauce, rigatoni with smoked oxtail and mushroom ragu and their take on classic lasagna. Desserts are true to the Italian way, including tiramisu, lemon-olive oil polenta cake and a double chocolate torte with fresh raspberries.

Salvo is currently offering takeout and DoorDash or UberEats delivery from 4-10 p.m. daily, and be sure to order a few different dishes if you're looking for an elegant and thoughtfully-prepared Italian dinner. They also have plans to open up a full bottle shop soon where you can grab a bottle of wine to enjoy with your meal, so stay tuned for that and follow their Instagram for updates!
