Toronto's newest gelato venture is taking custom orders

The only thing better than creamy, luscious homemade gelato is customizing your gelato to whichever flavour your heart desires, and an ex-Buca sous chef is now making that happen for our city.

House Scoops is Toronto's latest spot for the ever-popular Italian ice cream and it was dreamed up by chef Mathew Cribari, who is currently slinging tubs of homemade gelato and taking requests for creative flavours. Like several now-successful businesses that have blossomed over the past year, Cribari started this gelato-making venture as a hobby from his home, and it has gained significant traction over the past few weeks.

Cribari's first gelato delivery went out at the end of January with flavours like caramelized banana, Vietnamese iced coffee, Nutella and black sesame, which caught the eyes of several Torontonians on social media who were eager to get their hands on these delights. Of course, all of Mathew's gelatos are hand-crafted by him and use high-quality Sheldon Creek Dairy from Alliston, Ontario. Following his first drop, Cribari decided to put together a more formal "menu" of top pints, which included mint chip, caramelized banana, Nutella, salted caramel and lemon creamsicle, plus a few standout custom requests like Hojicha green tea, crème brûlée and ube (made from bright purple yams). Since then, even more delightful flavours have been added based on customers' requests, like peanut butter chocolate, Earl Grey, coconut cream pie and s'mores.

Clearly, people in this city love their ice cream, and Cribari's version really shines by incorporating the freshest dairy and the tastiest flavour combinations. He's keeping his business innovative by taking the gelato dreams of local customers and turning them into reality. His mindset of "endless possibilities" is helping him to stand out in the Toronto scene. He even made up a flavour based on his personal favourite peanut butter pie from Gertie's and threw it into one lucky customer's order as a surprise. As of February 7, he had handmade and delivered nearly 150 pints of gelato to Torontonians, and there's no doubt that this movement will only continue to grow from here.

Pints of this incredible gelato are available for $15 (for 710 mL), and orders can be made to Cribari over DM through House Scoops. Orders must be placed by Thursday for Sunday delivery, so make sure to message him with your ideal gelato flavour and see it come to life with a House Scoops creation!
