Stackt Market welcomes a storefront for Toronto’s first artisanal toast bar ‘We Love Toast’, or ‘Toast’ for short. After a successful collaboration with Found coffee shops, owner Segun Makinde decided to open a flagship store to see if toast would continue to be a popular food item among Torontonians.
“When I first came up with the idea, I was just asking people the question ‘do you like toast?’ and basically everyone was saying yes, so I thought why not try and put a spin on a simple snack everyone already enjoys,” Makinde said.
At this time, Toast is serving up three different menu items which Makinde says will cater to everyone. The Classic Comfort Toast is a new spin on a snack that everyone may be familiar with. The Classic Comfort is maple syrup and a honey drizzle on top of brown sugar and cinnamon. The savoury option they are offering includes beet hummus and avocado topped with cucumber and a balsamic glaze. Lastly, for the sweet tooths there is an Ice Cream Toast loaded with Nutella, a scoop of vanilla ice cream, chocolate chips and a caramel and chocolate drizzle.
Makinde says he hopes to expand the menu to include more curated options and to also have the opportunity for patrons to build their own toast, creating whatever unique combination they desire.
As a former Olympian, Makinde says he sees a lot of potential for Toast to be a success among the health and wellness community in Toronto.
“Back when I was training, this was something quick and easy I could have as a snack that was still healthy. I think a lot of other people want that option too,” he says.
Makinde hopes that Toast will become a popular destination for people on-the-go seeking out alternative snack options that satisfy whatever craving or dietary need they may have.
“I want Toast to feel like a comforting, homey experience, but just elevated,” he says.
