Toronto's favourite takeout sushi pop-up is set to open storefront this week

Toronto's most popular takeout sushi operation is gearing up to open just outside of city on Friday.

Highly regarded as some of the best takeout omakase-esque sushi that Toronto has to offer, Cho San Sushi is a jewel to the city and the suburbs of Markham where the business is based. Known for many things, Cho San is touted as having wickedly fresh cuts of fish and alluring spreads of sushi, prettily packed in a traditional wooden box for takeout, and had only been available for home delivery––until now.

Cho San Sushi's first storefront is slated to open this Friday, and will feature their sought-after sushi boxes for takeout. The store will also stock specialty Japanese products, including Japanese soy sauce, beverages and rice.

On the menu will be a slew of specialty sushi boxes, of course, with unique arrangements of a variety of nigiri, maki and sashimi.

The takeout sushi operation was first incubated during the pandemic, helmed by sushi chef Li Qiang Zhang, formerly of high-end sushi destination Zen Sushi in Markham. The pop-up concept was met with success early on, receiving praise from customers such as Workin' Moms star Catherine Reitman.

After months of solely delivering their regarded sushi boxes to doorsteps, their storefront will serve as a hub for their production and delivery, as well as offering their coveted sushi spreads for takeout.

You can find Cho San Sushi's new digs at 8374 Woodbine Avenue in Markham. The new space will be soft opening beginning this Friday on Dec. 10 and will be open from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.
