There's a new spot in Toronto that is specializing in all things brunch. O'SOMAE hopes to provide the community with new and exciting brunch options that include many non-traditional ingredients that will surely excite all types of food lovers.
They've curated picnic boxes, breakfast poutines and ice fusion teas. The café will utilize fresh ingredients, promoting local farms and businesses from across Toronto and all of their dishes will be made from scratch in-house.
The team behind O'SOMAE decided to open up in East Chinatown because they grew up in the area and felt due to the upcoming development in this neighbourhood, it could use some more unique food options. They all thought it was vital for them to make this area lively for everyone they grew up with.
The owners of O'SOMAE shared prior to opening; they spent three months trying out every single brunch location in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver before finalizing their menu. They settled on adding picnic boxes to make it easy to consume when ordering takeout as restaurants are currently closed for dine-in. They have four different picnic boxes to choose from, Avocado Toast Box, Chicken & Waffles Box, Duck Confit Waffles Box and Farmers Breakfast Box. The boxes have a variety of accompaniments like cranberry potato waffles, bacon, sour cherry maple glaze, herbed jam, cajun home-fries, fruit selections and much more.
In addition to their boxes, you can find a classic benny or a salmon benny made with smoked salmon, wild ikura and hollandaise. And since they're a cafe, they've included a drinks menu with a variety of fusion teas, coffee and smoothies.
A visually appealing tea, many are ordering the Herbs & Berries made with raspberry, gooseberry, lemongrass, butterfly-pea, rosebud blossom and honey.
At the O'SOMAE location, you will find a mural created by a local Toronto artist named Adrianne Chan. This was an important part of their cafe and opening due to its deep meaning and symbolism for the team. O'SOMAE's team shared that the butterfly is a symbol of maturity and how it bravely explores the new and colourful world with obstacles and challenges. The left side of the butterfly means nature, the works of God. The right side of the butterfly means the internet/media and the works of human. O'SOMAE wanted an art piece that aligns with their values, goals and motives to share with their community.
Since their grand opening, they have had happy hour specials between 1-4 p.m. and when dine-in opens, they plan to develop a secret menu for their loyal customers to try out. O'SOMAE is located at 357 Broadview Ave. and is currently open for takeout.
