After four successful years, chef Raymond Costain is no longer operating out of his Dope as Duck food truck but a brick-and-mortar location in Etobicoke.
This new takeout spot serves up classic dishes with a twist, including truck favourites like their award-winning mac and cheese and new items like their Beyond Meat Sausage on a Pretzel Bun.
Prior to opening up their storefront, Dope as Duck would take part in many events and weddings, including TasteToronto’s very own Beer, Bourbon and BBQ, Taco Fest, Pizza Fest and Brunch Fest.
They were also a contender in the city’s Fried Chicken Fest and Mac and Cheese Festival, where they tied third place for their Fried Chicken Churro Donut Sandwich and won first place with their mac and cheese.
Before the pandemic hit, they travelled all the way to Montreal for Taco Fest and Halifax for another Mac and Cheese Festival, where they took home first place once again.
All of these events have since come to a halt, leaving Costain no choice but to rent out a storefront in Etobicoke’s Long Branch, which took months to finalize, from signing the lease in February to waiting for licenses.
In addition to their signature mac and cheese, Costain and his son -- whom he’s trying to train -- are dishing up tacos like pulled duck and barbacoa beef, jerk chicken, pulled pork and beef brisket sandwiches, chicken wings and churro donuts for dessert.
Dope as Duck is located at 125 Twenty Seventh Street.
