Chef Noel Cunningham, a Jamaican-born chef in Toronto, has swept up three awards for his culinary excellence in 2020 at the annual ByBlacks Magazine People’s Choice Awards (PCA).
Cunningham has come into the year 2021 with a hot start––the chef recently opened his first restaurant in Toronto. Along with his exceptional Caribbean-inspired dishes, he is also a regarded caterer and hosts his own podcast.
He is well-known for fusing his talent for crafting elegant, Caribbean fusion-inspired cuisine with his passion for simple dishes using fresh and sustainable ingredients––all while showcasing his cooking excellence through a number of mediums.
The chef, who was born in Kingston, Jamaica, received three awards at this year’s PCA, being recognized for his culinary work in and out of the kitchen. He was able to snatch up the top prize for Best Chef, an award Cunningham won the year prior as well, along with the award for Best Caterer. He was also recognized for his podcast ‘What’s Cooking with Chef Noel’, which won him top prize in the Best Podcaster category.

Winners of the PCA event are decided by the public, and Cunningham’s dedication to his craft has boosted his identity in the culinary landscape of Canada.
The accredited chef is also a published author of his best-selling cookbook ‘Cuisine by Noel’, a title that is shared with Cunningham’s flagship restaurant just north of Kensington Market.
