This Toronto coffee shop is fighting the winter blues with hot brews today

The third Monday of January is annually known-as "Blue Monday," deemed as the saddest day of the year. Though there's no scientific backing behind this concept, which was first coined in 2005 by a UK travel company, over the years the term has proven its accuracy and one Toronto coffee shop wants to address it.

If you're able to dig your car out of the city's heavy snowfall today or willing to brave the cold for a little afternoon pick-me-up, you'll want to drop by Found Coffee at 324 College Street for "Brew Monday," where you and a friend can grab a free cup, on the house.

Hoping to start a new annual tradition on the third Monday in January, the shop posted to their Instagram that they want to redeem the day, bringing people together over a brew instead, ideally countering some blues.

Always promoting "coffee for a cause," Found Coffee is much more than your average coffee shop. They're a community hub, frequently supporting those around them––whether that's through importing ethically-sourced beans, supporting local artists, creating a welcoming space that aims to be a home away from home for many or bringing the importance of mental health to the forefront.

"It may not seem like much, but someone, somewhere in our community may be doing it tough and could use some love," reads the Instagram post. "We hope to serve and love our community, one cup and conversation at a time."

Found Coffee is open until 4 p.m. today. Their hours are Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. and on weekends they're open from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Be sure to follow them on Instagram to stay up to date on when their new location in Trinity Bellwoods launches.
