Fattoush, a Middle Eastern-inspired menu pop-up at The Depanneur, has secured a permanent location in Cabbagetown. They have been serving up delicious Levantine eats like hummus bowls, whipped tahini pancakes, manakeesh, foul moudamas, fresh falafel, kebabs and much more. Since last October, owners Moe, Linda and Gene have been operating through The Depanneur every weekend and decided it was time they found a spot to call their own.
Their official opening day is on May 8, 2021, where they will be keeping their classics on the menu and adding new special dishes and desserts. The new additions will be shared on opening day. In addition to this new venture, they are also partnering up with Propeller Coffee, a specialty coffee roaster in Toronto. The owners of Fattoush love coffee and once they were recommended to partner with Propeller, they instantly fell in love and knew it would be a great addition to their new menu.
Moe (chef), Linda (chef and media) and Gene (general manager) had all met in Vancouver at a restaurant called Campagnolo under chef Robert Belcham. From there, they branched out, focusing on each of their own crafts. Moe started in Toronto’s food scene working as a sous chef for restaurants like Indie Ale House and Beast Restaurant. Gene moved into the seafood industry, eventually working in a Forbes 30 under 30 software company focusing on overall optimization for the perishable industry and Linda went down the entrepreneurial path by starting her own cake decorating business called Sugar Sugar Studios in Vancouver. After reuniting in Toronto, they decided to focus on a menu that highlights Middle Eastern brunch. Chef Moe, who grew up in Switzerland and Jordan, carefully curated dishes that blended his native flavours with western ingredients. Since the team is of diverse backgrounds, you will find hints of French and American techniques in their Middle Eastern brunch, like tahini pancakes and quenelle-shaped falafels.
The team of three are looking forward to moving into Cabbagetown and have already gotten a warm welcome from the neighbourhood. To keep an eye out for their new menu at their new location on 253 Gerrard St. E., follow their socials channels. Until then, Fattoush will be operating at their Depanneur location on Saturday and Sunday until the end of April.
