If you’ve never had an authentic New Orleans-style beignet before, now’s your chance to try one!
Beignet Shoppe is the first of its kind in Canada, offering a menu that deals exclusively in classic and specialty beignets.
A couple -- who was intrigued by the overall concept of beignets after their travels -- are the brains behind this new pop-up that’s in partnership with chef Haines Jones from 6Spice Rack.
The pop-up was slated to open until the end of the month, however; a permanent operation at Street Eats Market in their very own food truck is in the works. After they were sold out every weekend since their grand opening two weeks ago, this decision came about.
For now, they’re operating as a vendor for Street Eats Market out of Jones’s food truck parked right outside of Hillcrest Mall in Richmond Hill.
On the menu, you’ll find both sweet and savoury options with new items introduced weekly.
Their most sought-after item is their OG for classic New Orleans-style beignets. These square-shaped, deep-fried pieces of dough are similar to French-style beignets but are sprinkled with a thicker coat of powdered sugar like the ones served here. They come in four or eight pieces and are paired with a side dipping sauce of spiced strawberry or blueberry ginger.
Another staple includes their savoury New Orleans Chick that consists of crispy fried chicken tossed in a chili garlic butter, sliced pickles and crunchy hot Cheetos, all sandwiched in between two of their light, airy like and pillowy beignets.
This pastry is also stuffed with a dark chocolate almond toffee cheesecake and topped with powdered sugar, cocoa powder and a Nutella espresso dip to create their OMG.
Beignet Shoppe is open from noon to 7 p.m. every Friday to Sunday for online preorders only.
