What if there was an ice cream truck you didn't have to listen for, or race out the door to catch as it came barrelling down your street? What if, instead, you could have it come directly to your door?
A modern-day version of the classic ice cream truck, the Ice Blizzard Wizard promises a fun and memorable experience for all that live near the city or around Roncesvalles Village. By taking personalized ice cream truck requests virtually and using GPS tracking links, Tatiana Prisiajny is looking to be more accessible and reinventing the entire ice cream truck experience.
Her journey all began just a few months ago when she was laid off from her job.
"My realistic side always thought that owning an ice cream truck was nothing more than a childhood dream, until one day while searching for a new job, I came across a Kijiji posting that changed my life," says Prisiajny.
That life-changing moment, she explains, occurred when she saw a job posting looking for ice cream truck drivers. On a whim, she applied for Blizzard Wizards Ice Cream Trucks and to her surprise, was called in for an interview. Shortly after, Prisiajny was hired as an ice cream truck driver.
Within a few weeks, Prisiajny was provided with her own truck and was able to start her adventure, serving sweet desserts to diners all over the city who might have otherwise been unable to access an ice cream truck for various reasons, such as accessibility or timing.
"The stories people tell about ice cream trucks are all usually the same. By the time they get their wallet and walk to the truck, the ice cream truck is gone," said Prisiajny. "So I figured, why not add something fun to people's days without the extra hassle?"
She decided to share a post on a local Facebook group about her ice cream truck, asking for suggestions on which streets she should ride on. Within hours, she had a flood of requests, far more than she could have ever imagined. That's when she knew she had to step up her game. Being one of the youngest in the industry, not to mention the only woman in her company, Prisiajny used her tech-savvy skills to offer a twist on the typical ice cream truck experience.
"I love that I can offer my customers a highly personalized experience, from making unique desserts to customizing their requests. For instance, I get a lot of requests to attend birthday parties. I also don't charge any extra fees as a new ice cream truck driver. I just show up, and my reward is being greeted with a ton of happy faces," Prisiajny said.
Prisiajny does catering events and always wants to provide the ice cream truck experience to those who are often left out. She noted that this past weekend, she drove out to Scarborough to visit one cal de sac, where residents claimed ice cream trucks never visited. This is just one of the examples of how Prisiajny has tried to be the most inclusive ice cream truck in the city.
Prisiajny also offers customers a wide variety of dairy-free and gluten-free choices, such as lactose-free ice cream bars and milkshakes. Apart from that, she also has a secret menu full of innovative ice cream creations, tested and approved by every sweet tooth she serves.
From a new-and-improved banana split––with crunchy wafers and sweet syrups––to a cookies and cream milkshake, you never know what's going to appear next on the menu at the Ice Blizzard Wizard.
"My secret menu gets its inspiration from my customers most of the time. Sometimes, I get the craziest flavour combination requests, but it works. Then I add it to my menu," said Prisiajny
