This Giving Tuesday, helping others is as easy as ordering your favourite meal from the SkipTheDishes network. Celebrating its third annual winter charity initiative, SkipTheDishes has partnered with Food Banks Canada to make a noticeable difference for those in need.
For many in our community, food insecurity is an everyday reality. According to Food Banks Canada — a nonprofit organization committed to relieving hunger today and preventing hunger tomorrow — one in seven Canadians is currently facing food insecurity. Since 2019, visits to food banks have increased by an astonishing 35 per cent. When it comes to fighting food insecurity, there’s never been a better time than now to help out any way you can.
As they work toward the common goal of creating immediate and long-term solutions to combat food insecurity in Canada, SkipTheDishes and Food Banks Canada are making it easy for everyone to get involved. Today, November 29, whether you order your go-to dinner, lunch for the work crew, or a simple snack to bolster your flagging afternoon energy, Skip will donate $1 to Food Banks Canada. This year, every donation will contribute to Food Banks Canada’s goal of moving 2.3 million pounds of food to food banks across Canada. Already have your Tuesday meal plan set in stone? Customers can also donate directly to Food Banks Canada, with SkipTheDishes matching contributions up to a total of $100,000.
“We are extremely appreciative that Canadians continue to open their wallets and pantries to generously support food banks across Canada," said Kirstin Beardsley, CEO of Food Banks Canada in a press release. “We’re thrilled to work with SkipTheDishes again this year, and proud to join forces and work toward our vision of a Canada where no one goes hungry.”
If supporting your favourite local restaurants as you support your community sounds like a win-win, this Giving Tuesday is set to be a success. Spread the word and embrace your generous side as you join the fight against hunger.
