The Society of Beer Drinking Ladies is celebrating its eighth anniversary with a special sneak-peek unveiling of their new clubhouse and headquarters.
Since its founding in early 2014, the Society has thought to create a space for women and femme folk in the male-dominated beer industry. In the eight years since, the society has organized monthly social events in Toronto, Ottawa and Hamilton, a bi-annual Lady Beer Fest in Toronto, and charitable donations to the Canadian Women’s Foundation, as well as many other events.
To celebrate their eighth birthday, the Society of Beer Drinking Ladies is hosting a sneak peek at their new headquarters, the Society Clubhouse, with a series of intimate hour-long sessions for small crowds throughout the night of Friday, Feb. 25.
The evening will include a tour of the new space, snacks and birthday cupcakes, take home bags, a DJ, and of course the sampling of craft beers. The event is open to women and non-binary folks, and the society asks that their cisgender male supporters show support in other ways.
Before the plans were laid for the Clubhouse, the Society’s monthly socials, called bevys, were held in different locations each time, with the location only being revealed just two days prior to the event to help give the air of a secret society of sorts.
But with the full opening of the Society Clubhouse this spring, the Society of Beer Drinking Ladies will have a permanent spot to host their bevys. The Clubhouse will also act as a craft beer bar, cafe, retail space and bottle shop stocked with women-owned and brewed beer, when it’s not serving as an event space.
The Society Clubhouse is slated to open in April 2022, and can be found at 967 College Street in Toronto.
