Real Talk Candles is releasing a Scarborough-themed candle that claims to smell like the riveting Jamaican patties at Warden Station, but the owner has revealed it doesn't.
If you’re unfamiliar, Warden Station has risen to the forefront of Toronto’s on-the-go eats, headlined by the renowned beef patties available. A viral Twitter poll showed that Bathurst Station held the throne, but many claimed Warden Station’s beef patties to be the best among Toronto’s subway stations. Scarborough has since adopted the Warden Station patty as a sort of symbol for their city and people.
To the dismay of many voters, it was revealed that the patties at both subway stations were in fact supplied by the same Fahmee Bakery. Still, Scarborough residents stand by Warden’s side.
A glimpse at the candle was first posted on January 5, which sparked a bounty of online discussion.
The candle company's owner Rachael-Lea Rickards cleared the air on Instagram, stating that the Scarborough candle does not smell like the Warden Station patties. It is simply just a "funny label" that recognizes one of Scarborough's most identifiable tokens.
The company first launched in April of 2020 and is easily recognized by their hilarious branding and witty labels.
The candle will be available for sale on the Real Talk Candles website on January 12, 2021. It drops alongside the 'Malton' candle, which claims to smell like the Westwood Mall food court (disclaimer: it doesn't). We think the candles would still make a fantastic gift for Torontonians.
