Following an extremely successful year in Parkdale, beloved Tibetan restaurant, The Momo House is set to open a new Yorkville location in mid-October. The restaurant opened its doors last October at 1422 Queen Street West and received quick praise and a loyal customer base for its affordable and varied momos -- a type of dumpling that is traditional cuisine in Tibet, Nepal and other parts of South Asia.
All momos are customizable with the options of vegetarian, beef, chicken or pork as the filling and can be ordered as steamed, fried, butter chicken, chili, jhol (served with soup), kurkure (breaded) or chat (tamarind, dry chips and cream).
Garab Lama -- who also owns another Parkdale staple, Tibet Kitchen -- is enthusiastic about his latest venture. "Coming from a vibrant Parkdale neighbourhood and opening a store in a swanky neighbourhood [like Yorkville] is exciting."

The Momo House will be moving into 1240 Bay Street, an address that Toronto food enthusiasts may recognize as the former home of Brothers. The extremely popular and acclaimed fine dining restaurant permanently closed its doors this past July. The closure was not for a lack of interest in their unique seasonal and local offerings, but because the space's small and intimate nature (that sits directly atop Bay subway station) was in contradiction to the government's reopening requirements. They saw no way forward without compromising the spirit of the restaurant.
Conversely, The Momo House will benefit from its ability to offer takeout in addition to sit-down service. It will be a great grab-and-go addition to Yorkville's lacking takeout scene.
