The Chase Fish & Oyster is transforming into plant-based Mexican inspired restaurant

The Chase Fish & Oyster, the more casual sister restaurant of high-end seafood spot The Chase, is officially closing to make way for the opening of PLANTA Cocina, a plant-based restaurant inspired by Mexican flavours.

The Chase Fish & Oyster opened up in 2013 on the ground level in the historic Dineen building at Yonge and Temperance. The laidback, yet elevated seafood spot was the unofficial hub for Bay Street business-types looking for an ideal locale for the power lunch fuelled by glasses of crisp white and plates brimming with boiled lobsters and freshly shucked oyster towers.

Although the city says goodbye to one restaurant, it gets ready to welcome another in its place. PLANTA restaurants, an offshoot brought to diners by the Chase Hospitality Group, have opened in Toronto and Miami and have emphasized their goal of creating upscale plant-based dining options. Chef David Lee, the man behind PLANTA's menu and concept, has ensured that PLANTA restaurants stay true to their vision. Each restaurant is well known for its beautiful interior and enticing food. PLANTA is committed to using high-quality products from ethical suppliers and they genuinely understand that there is more to plant-based eating than just taking animals off the plate.

Toronto is opening more and more plant-based vegan restaurant options and it is exciting to see a successful franchise such as PLANTA grow. PLANTA currently has locations in Yorkville (the flagship), which serves an array of dishes like cauliflower tots, the PLANTA burger, lettuce wraps and a chocolate terrarium, as well as Queen's location, which creates Asian inspired dishes and sharing plates. The vegan-centric brand is also known to do plant-based burger pop-ups in the Financial District and Yorkville Village. PLANTA Cocina will be a fine addition to the Financial District and can be found eventually at 10 Temperance Street.
