Street Eats Market delays night market opening to align with Ontario reopening plan

Toronto foodies will have to wait just a little bit longer for the return of one of the city's most anticipated food events.

The Street Eats Market, that has been successfully running for a few months now at Hillcrest Mall and Scarborough Town Centre (STC), planned to expand their food truck series to an International Night Market at their STC location. Previously, the opening was slated for June 4, however, to align with the province's first phase of reopening, the team has decided to push the opening date to Friday June 18 instead.

The International Night Market will run from June 18 until Sept. 19, Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. to midnight and Sunday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Vendors to look out for at the Night Market are Ricks Good Eats, Liko's Hawaiian Barbecue, 6ixDonutz and the Ultimate Food Truck. There will also be pop-up vendors for selected weekends, like 3 Amigas Churros, Just Another Burger Spot (JABS)Satay Sate, 6 Ft Apart, Ensanemada, Cantina Bar and Slow Jams, just to name a few.

Philip Sous, the owner of Street Eats Market, plans to keep the crowd safe with outdoor seating at a maximum of four individuals to a table. Since both markets will be operating at Scarborough Town Centre, there will be two separate lines to enter either market. Attendees will not be able to attend one side of the Street Eats Market then walk over to the International Night Market to comply with COVID-19 restrictions and safety. They will need to line up again to enter either side. StreetEats plans to provide extra staffing and informational boards to inform attendees the safe and appropriate way to access the market.

Some other exciting food festivals to look out for within the Street Eats Market bubble are series of events celebrating different cultures and cuisines, like Taste of the Philippines (June 25-27), Taste of the Caribbean (July 23-25) and Taste of the Middle East (August 20-22). There will also be a partnership with Hello Local to feature local artisan merchants over several weekends across various Street Eats Market locations (Hillcrest, STC, Burlington) throughout the summer.

Other popular festivals from previous years will be making a comeback with Street Eats Market as well, including the Mac & Cheese Festival, The Ice Cream Festival, and the Fried Chicken Festival, all set to be returning this summer at Street Eats Market's Hillcrest location.
