SoSo Food Club permanently closes its doors

The west end's popular SoSo Food Club is yet another restaurant to be taken out by COVID-19, announcing in an email on Monday, August 31 that they've "come to the tough decision not to reopen the restaurant as is on the other side of this pandemic." Known for its modern take on traditional flavours from all over China, Dundas and Ossington's trendy spot is closing after only two years of service to the public.

Managed by the same owners of Otto's Bierhalle and Otto's Berlin Doner, SoSo became a beloved destination for both dining and dancing, with its neon-lit ceilings and electric pink walls.

In mid-March, the restaurant decided that their best course of action in combatting the virus's spread and keeping both staff and the public safe was to temporarily close down until the situation improved. A melancholic notice on their website still lingers, detailing their "hope that very soon we can reopen our doors to serve the community." While the email included a link to stay in touch on Instagram, it appears that the account has since been disabled.

Despite the difficult outcome, the owners are hopeful that their new wine venture, Grape Crush, can continue to thrive in a more suitable model to weather the pandemic.
