We've all been patiently waiting for Stackt Market to reopen after their 2-month closure for an environmental survey, and as of May 3rd, they're back in full swing, this time with a bright new pop-up beckoning us with the scent of cream cakes and madeleines.
Soft Dough Co., a French patisserie pandemic side hustle project by Alice, has now been around Toronto for a year and a half, and despite having a full-time tech job, Alice has been passionately running Soft Dough Co. with no signs of slowing down. They are in the soft-opening mode for the first week of operation, but look out for their grand opening (and treats) next weekend.
Stackt was the perfect spot for Soft Dough Co. to set up their spring pop-up (and first storefront!), they participated in Asian Heritage Market last year, which had a huge turnout and their pick-up spot is down the street anyway, so it made sense to stick in the community where Soft Dough Co. has fantastic relationships. From what the owner Alice has seen at Stackt, a lot of small businesses that have started out here have gone on to do really amazing things.
Their shop has a full-service coffee bar, so you can pair your madeleines with a latte and a few seats to cozy up in the unceasing May rains. Soft Dough Co. is also passionate about supporting the BIPOC entrepreneur world, especially given how much the community has supported Soft Dough Co., and has a little shopping wall where they highlight some amazing goodies by local BIPOC businesses.
As an FYI (and to possibly save your relationship with your moms), Soft Dough Co. is still taking preorders for Mother's Day -- moms tend to love the black sesame cake and strawberry shortcake, as well as their cult-favourite Basque cheesecake. Mother's Day ordering deadlines to guarantee your choice are Thursday, May 5 at 1 p.m., but if you forget, they'll have a limited supply available at their Stackt location on the day of.
Although their pop-up time at Stackt is only two months, they are planning to host many other pop-ups this summer and at times, they don't have a storefront you can continue to order your favourite treats online. Follow their Instagram to keep up to date with future events.
