Six employees at St. Lawrence Market have tested positive for COVID-19, according to a City of Toronto news release.
The six employees, split between three merchant stores, last worked in the market on December 19, December 21 and December 24. The city says that all close contacts have been notified and are self-isolating and monitoring for symptoms.
"The risk to the general public is low, as the interactions with employees with infections would have been brief (lasting 1-2 minutes), while employees and patrons were wearing masks and maintaining physical distance as much as possible," they said Wednesday.
For privacy reasons, St. Lawrence Market can not disclose the identity of people who tested positive, but the release provides details on how the employees may have contracted COVID-19:
- Employee A was determined to have contracted COVID-19 from a family member in their household.
- Employee B and C work together.
- Employee D works in another store but commuted to work with Employee B.
- Employee E has a family member in their household with COVID-19.
- Employee F commuted to work with Employee E.
- The COVID-19 cases of Employees A, B, C & D have not been determined to be related to the cases of COVID-19 from Employees E & F.
There has been no comment from St. Lawrence Market as of yet, but they are scheduled to be open tomorrow on New Year's Eve.
