The restaurant group behind Scaddabush Italian Kitchen and Bar, Reds Midtown Tavern and Duke's Refresher Bar have decided to close down their locations at Yonge and Gerrard Streets.
Located at one of the busier intersections in Toronto, the three institutions were popular spots for diners, being just a block north of the bustling Yonge-Dundas Square and a stone's throw from the Ryerson University campus. Service Inspired Restaurants (SIR), the restaurant group behind other popular casual restaurants like Canyon Creek and Jack Astor's, said in a statement that the pandemic has "drastically altered our environment and put a great deal of stress on many businesses including our own."
The company claims that they had come to a "mutually beneficial" agreement with their landlord that would allow for an easy transition in vacating the space.
The restaurants, which were placed side-by-side-by-side under the Aura condominium building, took up a large footprint in the area, and their absence will be physically noticeable. There are currently no immediate plans for the space.
Scaddabush, a bustling and well-known spot for casual Italian eats has expanded throughout the Greater Toronto Area over the past few years. Their Yonge and Gerrard location had opened in 2014 and boasted a massive 6,500 square-foot dining space. Reds and Duke's were also enjoyable spots for casual diners.
Moving forward, Scaddabush still has their location at 200 Front Street up and running, as well as all their other locations sprawled throughout the GTA. You can visit Reds' two other locations at 77 Adelaide Street and at Square One in Mississauga. The Duke's at Gerrard has shifted all their operations to their St. Lawrence Market location at 73 Front Street as of today.
