A national coalition of over 1,000 restaurant owners, partners and workers are organizing a Canada-wide New Years Eve event to support the hospitality and entertainment industries.
The ‘Big Night In’ is a virtual cross-country celebration that will feature an all-Canadian line up of performing artists. A portion of proceeds from all tickets sold will go to a participating restaurant of the ticket holder’s choice.
A portion of ticket sales will also go to performing artists and hospitality workers through national beneficiaries.
Organized by SaveHospitalityCA in partnership with Crow’s Theatre and produced by Front Row Center, the event will feature virtual performances from Broken Social Scene, Ruby Waters, Moscow Apartment and Shantel May. The Big Night In will be hosted by Toronto's own Paradise Theatre.
Tickets for the virtual event will cost $19.95 plus tax. Additionally, Crow’s Theatre is offering a ‘Dinner and a Show’ package ($185 plus tax) which includes a gourmet meal kit for two, a bottle of wine and tickets to the event.
Launched in March, SaveHospitalityCA is a Canadian initiative aimed at supporting local restaurants impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The organization has planned and outlined what government and policy officials need to do to help restaurants survive the pandemic.
Restaurant workers account for 7 per cent of Canada’s total workforce, approximately 1.3 million jobs. By the end of March, it was reported that an estimated 800,000 restaurant workers were laid off as a result of the pandemic––a whopping two-thirds of the nation’s entire restaurant workforce.
The food service sector is a $90 billion industry, representing 4 per cent of Canada’s gross domestic product. As a vital sector of Canada’s economic landscape, SaveHospitality is a much needed coalition that can help keep the industry afloat.
The Big Night In event serves as a fun and enlightening wrap-up for a year filled with loss and significant impact––an accessible way for Canadians to give back to the restaurants they have come to know and love.
Tickets can be purchased through the SaveHospitalityCA website. The event will run from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. on December 31.
