After 10 passionate years, Ruby Watchco has ended its service in Toronto. Known for its farm-to-table, family-style approach to dining and use of local ingredients, the restaurant saw great success under the expert guidance of world-renowned chefs and television personalities Lynn Crawford and Lora Kirk.
The Riverside restaurant was popular for its beautiful dining space and an upscale prix-fixe menu featuring seasonal Canadian offerings like roasted Ontario lamb, wild BC salmon, Norfolk County Pork, artisanal cheeses and more. They switched over to a simplified menu in recent months as they pivoted to an exclusive patio dine-in and takeout model.
A note on the restaurant’s website from the co-chefs reads: “Ruby Watchco has meant the world to the both of us and we are very grateful to have had the opportunity to have cooked for so many wonderful people. We will certainly miss you and look forward to cooking for you all very soon!”
While many food industry endeavours have been forced to fold due to the pandemic, Crawford and Kirk cite the closure as “nothing other than a family decision. These days, especially, family is everything.”
