Rose & Sons returns for takeout

The aptly named "King of Comfort Food," Anthony Rose, is back with his original and most beloved restaurant projects on Dupont.

After closing down last year, Rose & Sons and its backyard barbecue joint Big Crow were replaced by The Grand Elvis, a new and more upscale restaurant concept from Rose and his company. However, the new spot turned out to be short lived, with the grand opening at the beginning of 2020 and then a forced shut down when COVID-19 hit in March. They decided against opting for takeout during the first months of the pandemic, and many were left wondering what would happen to Rose's latest baby.

Well, it was announced on Tuesday that Rose's original Jewish deli, Rose & Sons, will be returning to that space, and The Grand Elvis will be no more. Although he owns five other restaurants, Rose & Sons will always be the most classic and nostalgic of them all, as it was the first spot that Rose opened up many years ago on a quiet street that was not yet lined with his delicious success stories. It started as an elevated diner with indulgent burgers, creamy mac n' cheese, fried chicken and loaded brownie sundaes. Over the years, they made the slow transition to more of a traditional Jewish deli, offering some of the city's best pastrami sandwiches on caraway rye bread, coca-cola brisket, and melty Reubens and their famed "patty melt", which takes a juicy burger patty and essentially stuffs it into a grilled cheese sandwich with a pile of caramelized onions.

Die-hard fans of the deli will be happy to hear of its return with a more streamlined menu that includes some of the classic dishes (like their fried chicken and pastrami fried rice) and a few new items. Those wondering about the deli food are slowly building the menu back up, so keep your eye out for their sandwiches and a brunch menu in the near future. They are currently open for takeout on Wednesday through Sunday evenings, so make sure to drop by and snag some of Rose's classic comfort food.
