From being viral on TikTok and accumulating over 1 million views, to serving some of the most authentic Thai dishes in the city, Sala Modern Thai Kitchen has now opened up a third take-out location in Etobicoke––following their second location opening in Mississauga earlier this year.
Sala Modern is regarded as one of Toronto's top Thai restaurants and has served the Danforth community since 2017. Many customers at the Danforth location continuously asked for a location in Etobicoke, which prompted Chef Mo to locate a new space there. In Etobicoke there are offering top items from our Danforth menu, including Pad Thai, various curry dishes and the Khao Soi.
Chef Mo is an Isaan-native, and has been wanting to share her passion for Thai cuisine all over the GTA for a long time. When she first moved to Canada she quickly realized many spots who were selling Pad Thai were making it incorrectly and skipping out on a lot of the major ingredients.
"My personal battle against ketchup seems to resonate because… well you can’t put a ketchup in Pad Thai. It’s common sense. I get so mad," she says.
Therefore, most of the ingredients at Sala Modern Kitchen are imported from Thailand, including the rice, coconut milk, noodles and sauces––specifically the special Thai soy sauce, which is essential in making Pad See Ew. Chef Mo shared nothing is ever pre-boiled and everything is made fresh and authentic to Thai cuisine standards.
Mo Thai––the Missisauga location––opened in April of this year. According to Chef Mo, there are few Thai places in the area, so people stormed right in the moment they opened. Since it was still lockdown and no patio dining was available, some people actually brought their own foldable chairs and made a socially-distanced DIY patio in their parking lot across from the restaurant to enjoy the food. Chef Mo says it's her fault because she always encourages her patrons to eat as soon as they get it to embody the full Thai street food experience.
The new takeout location is at 20 Lockport Avenue in Etobicoke.
