Parkdale just got a new homey cafe and bar

A new coffee shop just moved into the Parkdale neighbourhood! Larry's Folly is a cafe by day and watering hole by night serving handcrafted coffee creations, baked goods and libations. The cafe and bar is named after owner, Stephen Schweighardt's grandfather Larry. From the recipes passed down from his mother and grandmother to the name itself, the space is deeply inspired by Stephen's tight-knit family and nostalgia.

“I have a big fascination with the past,” says Schweighardt. “I want people to come into the space and it feels comforting and homey.”

Having previously owned Mallo Coffee & Bar on Bloor and Bathurst at before dreaming up Larry’s Folly, Stephen is no stranger to the Toronto coffee scene.

For many, this year has been full of hardships, and it’s been no different for Stephen. Opening a restaurant during a pandemic has its many challenges from delays with city permits, to indoor dining restrictions and gutting the old Parkdale building by himself, it's been a long 9 month journey for the Newmarket native.

With help of his partner Avalon, friends and family, Larry’s Folly has become a sanctuary for those who are reminiscent of the simpler times, looking for a place to call home. Check them out at 1462 Queen St W any day of the week!
