Torontonians rejoiced back in March when Ontario announced that restaurants and bars within the province were permitted to sell alcohol with takeout and delivery orders. This new regulation is part of the government's efforts to make the lives of citizens a little easier (and the lines a little shorter) amidst the unprecedented shutdown of the hospitality industry during this pandemic.
However, there seems to be a recurring complaint about the prices of wine, beer and spirits at the restaurants now offering them alongside takeout orders. It's hard not to notice that these costs are significantly higher than those for the exact same products at the LCBO, which undoubtedly deterred many from purchasing drinks this way.
The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, much to our luck, has just announced new measures to support restaurants during COVID-19, which includes lowering the price of spirits from $2.00 per 29mL to $1.34 per 29mL. This will allow for standard, 750mL bottles of alcohol like vodka, gin, whisky and rum to be sold at a minimum price much closer to that at the typical LCBO store, encouraging people to purchase them as part of takeout orders and in turn, further supporting the restaurants offering this. This will be effective until January 1st, 2021.
Terroni even opened an in-store wine shop at the Adelaide location; as well as offering a selection of wine for delivery when purchasing a food order.
Of course, it is still necessary to purchase food with your alcoholic drinks, but who doesn't want a hearty snack alongside their cocktail? Bringing the bar to you just got easier (and cheaper), so continue drinking responsibly in the comfort of your home!
