Jamaica in January is a two-part virtual event hosted by community individuals that will celebrate the delicious “vibes” of Jamaica.
The event will feature a free 1-hour virtual session that will include live performances from Tania Lou sharing Jamaican stories, poems and songs as well as a live food pairing and demo from award-winning chef Noel Cunningham.
Paired with the exciting event is an optional Jamaican meal that can be pre-ordered and enjoyed during the event.
There are six hot meals available, three of which are prepared by Cunningham and another three from Donna Gardner of Taste of Jamaica fi Real.
Cunningham will bring three editions of stew peas––a traditional Jamaican dish with the customer’s choice of protein (pig’s tail, salt beef or vegetarian). Gardner brings the classic Jamaican flavours with either jerk chicken, curry goat or curry chicken.
All meal boxes, called “Jamaica in a Box”, will include a Jamaican dessert––either a rum cake cheesecake or a coconut and mango pound cake as well as a choice of beverage. Each box also comes with a package of Jamaican coconut drops, which were specially created for the event, as well as six Jamaican postcards. The box includes one hot meal and is priced at $50 with an option to add on other items.
Tickets to the event can be purchased through their Eventbrite page, and will take place on January 31 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Jamaica in a Box meals can be picked up on the day of between 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. at 300 College Street.
