After releasing several teaser photos on Instagram since late August 2022, Madre de Lobo, a new high-end Mexican eatery, is getting ready to welcome its first guests next month.
With a grand opening event slated for May 5 (aligning perfectly with the Mexican holiday, Cinco de Mayo), Madre de Lobo is located at 1226 King St. W., straddled between Little Tibet and Liberty Village.
Housed in a two-storey Victorian-style building, Madre de Lobo’s exterior facade features black painted brick decked out with colourful, whimsical Mexican art, including a cactus, red pepper, an orange sombrero, a turquoise and pink bird, and pink hearts and flowers. An existing patio seen previously at this spot has been demolished.
The interior, done by interior designer Jenifer Cerqueira, sees live plants and wicker lamps hanging from arched doorways.
An L-shaped bar with a wooden top invites guests to pull up a stool to enjoy a quick drink. But perhaps one of the most impressive decor elements is a section of the ceiling, which features 200 skulls.
Menu highlights include grilled Mexican street corn with cotija cheese, the Madam and Sir Meat Platter, which features grilled steak served with fresh limes and cilantro, a surf and turf burrito made with juicy jumbo grilled shrimp and steak, and of course, plenty of tacos.
Madre de Lobo's grand opening will run May 5 through May 7. Keep and eye on their Instagram page for further details!
