Brazil Box, a new Brazilian snack shop, opened their food concept last week in the heart of Toronto's Harbourfront.
Chef and owner Alex Baracat opened Brazil Box, wanting it to be a space for Brazilian street food to be on full display. Having worked in the restaurant industry (Lobby, Hotel X Toronto) for years, this was a dream come true for Baracat.
"I have Brazilian background, came to Canada three years ago. I started this business as a passion for my culture's food and I didn't see many places having Brazilian street food around here, so this motivated me to open my own shop to show the city that Brazil has more amazing delicacies other than just churrasco," says Baracat.
On the menu here, you'll find items like pastels, tapiocas, empanadas, and Pao de Queijo. Pastels are fried pastries stuffed with your choice of toppings like beef, cheese, egg, shrimp, chicken and more. The same fillings can be placed in a tapioca crepe, which is another popular Brazilian street food dish. Pao de Queijos are the famous cheese-filled breads that are eaten everywhere in Brazil.
They also sell customizable acai cups with various toppings like dulce de leche, condensed milk, pineapple, coconut and nutella among others. You can also find other sweets like mini churros and brigadeiros, which are miniature balls of chocolate.
Brazil Box is located at 390 Queens Quay West, operating out of the ghost kitchen at Loch and Quay. It is currently open Tuesday through Sunday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. and closed Mondays. They currently available for pickup and will soon be out for delivery as well.
