Momofuku, the internationally-acclaimed restaurant brand, is finally bringing their prized flagship pantry staples to Canada.
After months of anticipation, Canadians can soon get their hands on Momofuku’s essential pantry items to use at home. Chef and founder David Chang revealed that the restaurant group was launching their own bottle of soy sauce and tamari back in November 2020, but would only be available in the US, until now. With the addition of three Momofuku seasoned salts and a chili crunch, the ‘Pantry Starter Pack’ provides you with great, chef-quality ingredients to step up your home-cooking.
The soy sauce, according to Chang, is a product that has been in the making for nearly a decade.
“Often in American grocery stores soy and tamari tastes like caramel colored salt water...that has to change,” Chang wrote on Instagram. “They sell 10 types of olive oil, why not 10 types [of] soy or tamari?”
Soy sauce is not gluten-free, so Momofuku has released their own tamari alongside it to accommodate dietary restrictions. While both soy sauce and tamari are made using fermented soybeans, tamari excludes the use of wheat and is a byproduct when making miso. Both sauces are steeped in kombu to achieve a rounded, deep flavour unlike any other brand on the market.
Alongside these two sauces are a spicy chili crunch and three types of seasoned salt––a savoury, spicy and tingly salt which have their own, respective recommended uses.
The products will be available to order in Canada very soon––you can get notified of its launch by signing up for their emailing list.
