It wasn't an easy wait, but Momofuku is finally bringing their line of restaurant-grade pantry goods to Canadian homes.
With a goal to “redefine what the home pantry looks like,” the Michelin-starred hospitality group launched Momofuku Goods in the US in 2020, giving lockdown-ridden home cooks a way to infuse Momofuku’s signature modern Asian flavours into their everyday cooking.
From crunchy chili oils to umami-packed salts, soy sauces, and air-dried instant noodles, Momofuku’s grab-and-go pantry essentials are all made with just enough kick to go with anything and everything.
Inspired by the chili crisp condiments served at the Momofuku Ssäm Bar in New York, their Chili Crunch line comes in three flavours: Original, Extra Spicy, and Black Truffle. It goes without saying that any of the Chili Crunch flavours will pair perfectly with rice, noodles, pizzas, and tacos, but the Momofuku team especially recommends some more unusual combos like ice cream and watermelon.
Also used in Momofuku’s kitchens is their range of Seasoned Salts, available in three interesting blends. For grilled steaks and veggies, the original Savory brings together kosher salt, garlic, tamari, kelp, and mushroom powder.
For shrimp, stewed meats, and ripe mango, the Spicy blend builds on their Savory mix with a flash of heat from Korean chili powder gochugaru, cayenne pepper, and dried chilies. The Savory is also used as a base in their Tingly salt, which adds Sichuan peppercorns and citrus for a unique jolt of flavour—perfect for fish, popcorn, and roasted veggies.
Momofuku also makes their own organic, kombu-steeped soy sauce created from 10 years of research at the Momofuku Culinary Lab. It's a powerful flavouring agent used in many of their restaurants for just about everything, and now you can have it readily available in your own kitchen. You'll also be able to bring home their house-made Tamari, a Japanese soy sauce that's steeped for 72 hours for a deeper, more satisfying flavour.
Combining Momofuku’s talent for condiments is their glorious line of saucy Noodles. Ready in just four minutes, these instant noodles are refreshingly air-dried and are available with three different sauces: Spicy Soy, Soy & Scallion, and Tingly Chili.
Coinciding with their exciting Canadian launch is a new, limited-time Rice Vinegar made with organic jasmine and basmati rice, fermented and aged for months. It’s a simple staple that can subtly enhance dishes with a touch of acid complexity, perfect for salad dressings, soups, fresh seafood, and marinades.
Momofuku Goods is expected to launch their Canadian online store in the next few weeks with nation-wide home delivery. With the only Momofuku in the country right in our city centre, Torontonians will also have the option of grabbing their full range of pantry items at Momofuku Toronto on 190 University Ave. While the final launch date is yet to be announced, you can get a jump on it by joining their official waitlist.
