Miznon is officially slated to open in Toronto. Famous for its fluffy pita sandwiches, the Israeli-born restaurant quickly garnered a devote following after its initial Tel Aviv opening back in 2011. Since its inception, Miznon has expanded its global presence, opening restaurants in New York, Paris, Vienna, Melbourne and Singapore.
Miznon was founded by chef Eyal Shani, a respected thought leader in Israeli cuisine. Besides overseeing the Miznon locations, chef Shani has several restaurants in Tel Aviv, including acclaimed fine dining restaurant HaSalon.
Pinned as redefining the street food scene in Israel, Miznon's menu has always revolved around the pita. With a wide selection of vegetarian and meat options, the quick-service and no-frills restaurant values high-quality ingredients that reflect Mediterranean fare but with tailored items depending on that respective city's unique and vibrant energy.
Miznon (meaning "kiosk" in Hebrew) has always operated as a casual establishment, with a few tables located within the restaurant for dine-in patrons, majority take advantage of the walk-up counter where stuffed pitas are whipped up to-go.
For strictly veg, the Lavan pita is a standout, stuffed with roasted cauliflower, tahini, tomato salsa, spicy green peppers and scallions or the Falafel pita, which comes shaped in a patty and topped with tomato, sour cream, pickles and green chili peppers.
For meat lovers, a classic Miznon must-order would have to be the Minute Steak, a pita stuffed with undeniably tender, thin morsels of steak, tahini, tomato salsa, pickles and spicy green peppers.
Or unique to the New York locations, the Folded Cheese Burger In A Pita, encased with cheese, garlic aioli, sour cream, tomato and pickles.
The details and tentative opening date have yet to be disclosed but according to Miznon Toronto's Instagram page, the new storefront will be located in Yorkville. Expect the highly anticipated opening to showcase Miznon classics and, hopefully, some unique Toronto exclusive items.
