One of the Toronto’s best ramen joints quietly soft-opened their new location this past weekend.
Konjiki Ramen, along with dessert cafe Saryo Cafe, opened its doors at their shining new location at the regarded shopping centre, Yorkdale Mall. After having opened their first location in North York back in 2017, they have quickly expanded to other locations across the city.
The Konjiki brand is based in Tokyo by Chef Atsushi Yamamoto. They were Michelin Bib Gourmand recommended from 2015 to 2018 and a Tokyo Walker Magazine winner for #1 ramen in Tokyo 2016 and 2017. They were also a Michelin one-star for the last three years––2019, 2020, and 2021, making this the closest thing to Michelin-starred ramen that you can find in Toronto.
Saryo Cafe is a popular dessert brand from Japan that was established 20 years ago. They made Toronto their first overseas destination and had opened a shop previously in North York, of which they shared with Konjiki Ramen. They are described as a crossover between Japanese and Western flavours, whilst also importing specialty ingredients like their Uji Matcha powder.
Konjiki is popular for their signature clam broth infused with pork and chicken. The clams add a slightly sweet and briny flavour that is said to enhance the umami flavour of the broth. Chef Yamamoto uses high quality ingredients for their ramen bowls, like sous-vide pork chashu, wagyu beef, porcinis, black truffles, as well as a number of other items. When you're looking for a sweet taste to end your meal, Saryo offers a variety of pastries and confections like their popular houjicha brownies, matcha lattes and matcha sundaes too.
Konjiki Ramen and Saryo Cafe's new location can be found inside Yorkdale Mall at 3401 Dufferin Street. Their hours right now run from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
