Michelin star branded ramen chain opening new location in Markham

One of Toronto’s best ramen shops has just opened its third and newest location in Markham. Konjiki Ramen first opened in North York in 2017 and has grown a cult following since.

The Konjiki brand is based in Tokyo by chef Atsushi Yamamoto, who has exceeded ramen standards and earned multiple awards and merits worldwide. Michelin recognized Konjiki as 'Bib Gourmands', meaning they offered quality meals at a low price, from 2015 to 2018. Konjiki was also a Tokyo Walker magazine winner for #1 ramen in Tokyo in 2016 and 2017 and were a Michelin one-star restaurant for the last two years, 2019 and 2020.

They are popular for their signature clam broth infused with pork and chicken. The clams add a slightly sweet and briny flavour that really enhances the umami flavour of the broth. Chef Yamamoto uses high-quality ingredients for their ramen bowls like sous-vide pork chashu, wagyu beef, porcinis, black truffles, as well as several other items. They import a lot of ingredients from Japan but still try to use local Canadian ingredients when they can.

As with the other locations in Downtown and North York, each location has its own unique specials menu. This Markham location will exclusively carry the Wagyu & Angus Beef Shoyu Ramen, which will be launching in the coming weeks.
