If you live in Toronto and/or are even remotely interested in the food and restaurant scene, you are almost certainly familiar with Matty Matheson. The outspoken Canadian chef has become a well-known celebrity over the years, winning over the hearts (and stomachs) of those looking for deliciously indulgent food with home-style vibes.

Formerly the executive chef at Parts & Labour in Parkdale, Matheson now has a variety of titles under his belt, including two-time cookbook author, social media superstar, TV personality and consultant for popular Toronto restaurants Dog & Bear and Maker Pizza. He has hosted several pop-ups and food festivals over the years, which have proven to highlight one of his concepts in particular that will now be receiving a permanent home: Matty's Patty's.

The restaurant concept had its beginnings at RVCAloha, an event on the north shore of Hawaii by the design-driven apparel and lifestyle brand founded by Pat Tenore. Matheson and Tenore collaborated not only on a clothing collection but on the burger spot that took place at the event to feed hungry attendees. Since then, they have kept the concept alive via pop-ups in Shibuya, Japan and at Toronto's MattyFest, drawing in crowds of folks looking for a juicy, cheesy, Matheson-style burger.

Chef Matheson has been prepping for Matty's Patty's opening for the past little while, and the permanent fixture for his famous burgers is finally opening up this weekend on Queen West. Located right across the street from Trinity Bellwoods Park in the former home of Tacos Ricos, the shop is taking over prime real estate and will no doubt attract lineups of fans and burger lovers to indulge in a patty. Matty's 7oz cheeseburger features his signature sauce with a heap of gooey cheese, along with the classic pickle, onion, ketchup and mustard toppings. The spot will also be serving up all-beef hot dogs, plain or chilli cheese style, as well as Impossible cheeseburgers for the vegetarians who want to experience the magic of Matty's Patty's. For sides, guests can grab fries, poutine and a wedge salad doused in green goddess dressing, and for something sweet to finish off the meal, a thick and creamy chocolate shake.

Be sure to keep your eye out for the opening of Matty's Patty's this weekend and stop by for what will most likely be one of the best burgers you've ever had. You may even spot Matheson there to greet guests with animated enthusiasm. Follow their Instagram for updates on opening day and time, and get ready for a next-level burger experience!
