In Toronto, ideas can be monuments to the old, or they can be entirely fresh. Superfresh is a bit of both. Replacing Annex Food Hall—which was where Korean market, Bloor Superfresh, was—the new Superfresh will be taking over the 4,000-square-foot space with Asian-led businesses for an all-day night market experience.
Slated to open in early April, Superfresh will highlight vendors with offerings representing different corners of Asia, including Northern China, Nepal, Taiwan and Korea. Expect curated food and drinks from Toronto brands you love, a bodega with artisanal items, plus live entertainment and secret events at this fully packed, communal concept.
Part of the excitement surrounding this opening is the coming together of four industry veterans: James Lee (Annex Food Hall), Trevor Lui (Joybird, Kanpai, Highbell Group), Jae Pak—an award-winning creative leader, and Dave Choi—a Toronto entrepreneur.
With Lui on board, there’s no question you’ll find Joybird’s BaoBird at Superfresh, in addition to other local Asian favourites, like Big Beef Bowl, The Good Goods, and popular superette Auntie’s Supply.
More than a food hub, Superfresh will also be hosting artisan markets, live DJs, pop-ups, and fashion events as part of its dedication to community and heritage.
“We wanted to create a community and cultural hub, not just simply a spot to eat,” says Lui. “By curating an entirely authentic and fully Asian concept, it allows us to celebrate much of the things we hold near and dear to our hearts.”
With a keepsake name that pays homage to its Korean-owned predecessor, Superfresh will show its community how to celebrate roots in a 21st-century way.
Visit Superfresh at 384 Bloor Street West when it opens its doors in early April. The market will be open from Monday to Sunday, 1 p.m. to late. Follow their Instagram or sign up for their mailing list to see the full vendor list later this month, and keep your eyes peeled for an announcement with their grand opening date.
