Popular King West restaurant Baro is bringing Korean BBQ nights with a Latin flair every Wednesday on their rooftop patio.
The Latin Korean fusion menu is curated by Baro's Chef de Cuisine, Justin Lee, who jokingly suggested the idea during a discussion amongst the chef team regarding a new patio menu.
Executive Chef Steven Gonzalez really took to the idea and gave Lee full reins to create the themed menu.
The prix fixe menu is $50 per person and includes four protein-forward courses -- traditional of Korean BBQ -- and dessert.
The first of the five courses is a salmon ceviche with a yuzu soy leche topped with avocado puree and nashi pear.
Latin and Korean flavours come together in the Red Dragon Pork Tacos with pineapples, mango puree and avocado crema, stacked high on a corn tortilla.
More traditional of Korean barbecue, the third course is galbi beef short ribs served with broccoli, scallions and soy.
Lee finishes off with a bold miso citrus-marinated pork belly served with jasmine rice and pickled green onions and Ontario pickerel served with chilli oil and fennel.
As for dessert, cool off from the meat sweats with Baro's signature mango helado.
"Every course is nicely balanced with citrus, sweetness, spice and seasoning. If you look at the menu itself, you might think it's a bit too heavy, but if you taste all the foods, you won't feel that way," says Lee.
While Baro will be servicing their full drink menu for the event, Lee recommends pairing a sour cocktail like the Paloma Spritz or a beer between meals. "I would recommend having some kind of sour cocktail to clear your tongue after courses".
Latin Korean BBQ night is happening every Wednesday on the roof at 485 King Street West from 3 p.m. until late.
