Introducing Sabbatical Sundays: A dinner series highlighting standout chefs in the city

A limited-time dinner series is coming to Toronto that will showcase a handful of talented chefs, in particular those that ran standout COVID-fuelled pop-ups, and you'll definitely want to snag a reservation.

Hosted by Lake Inez -- an east-end restaurant known for its eclectic plates, extensive craft beers and low intervention wines -- the new dinner series dubbed 'Sabbatical Sundays' is an offshoot of the restaurant's 'Weird Wine Club' that will see its first instalment take place this Sunday, September 26.

Sunday's dinner will be the first of 4 pop-ups, with chef Ken Yau of K.Dinners set to be cooking a feast for the launch of Sabbatical Sundays. Chef Yau himself has been wrapped up in many of his own projects throughout the pandemic. From collaborating on takeout meals with other Toronto restaurants to selling his line of insanely popular and creative frozen dumplings, k.Dumps, chef Yau is set to return to where it all started for him, pop-up dinners.

Following chef Yau, the line-up includes Spice Girl Eats, run by Becca Pereira, who like many passionate home cooks during quarantine, launched a home-grown food business that was met with resounding success. After renting out kitchen space from the Depanneur, Pereira was busy slinging out her favourite Indian comfort food dishes and has since gone on to collaborate with Grape Witches and Soho House.

Tito Johnny's will be cooking the third featured dinner and has been cooking small-batch Filipinx comfort food for people to prepare meals at home throughout COVID.

The fourth and final featured chef of Sabbatical Dinners is yet to be confirmed. This Sunday's dinner starts at 7:30 p.m. and you can message Lake Inez on Instagram to reserve your spot. The dinner costs $75 and includes a four-course meal from chef Yau and wine pairings.
